OLD HABITS VS HEALTHY ROUTINES

Mark Hampton Website

HELLO ALL,

What kind of habits do you have?  Are they old unhealthy habits?  Are those old habits keeping you stuck in unhealthy routines?  When I think about old habits, I think about a time when I was really unhealthy.  I remember waking up in my disease and going to sleep in my disease.  In those times most of my habits revolved around my disease and were unhealthy.  Today, I wake up, pray, drink a cup of coffee, exercise, shower and begin my day. There are some variations too those items occasionally.  However, for me, I had to practice these routines countless times and in the beginning it was like learning how to live all over again differently.  There were times when it was REAL hard to execute these things.  It was almost like tasks or checking off a list at first.  They didn’t have a lot of meaning other than someone suggested them to me in order to build healthy routines and unlearn my old habits.

In the very beginning I was told when I awoke to write down 3 gratefuls daily, read the 3rd step prayer, make my bed, check in with my sponsor and go to a meeting.  Sounds simple, but those routines were very difficult to do day in and day out.  Those old habits wanted to take over at times and I had to be reminded in order to live differently, I needed to practice these things to build a foundation of healthy routines.  Today, my routines are the foundation of my day.  Those simple items which I try to do on the daily, sets the stage for my day and keeps me on the right path. I am grateful for the continued practice of these things which keeps me in the right space.  It is by the Grace of God that I am able to do these things today and I still continually practice my healthy routines.  It is all about practice!! You can do it!! God bless you, Mark.

WHO ARE WE?

Mark Hampton Website

Hello All,

I have been thinking about who we become when we are not sober, struggling in our addiction and our mental health is in jeopardy as well.  Are we responsible people? Are we kind people?  Are we good parents?  Are we able to be a good friend?  How about a good brother, sister, aunt, uncle or cousin? Do we pay attention to the things in our lives which are truly important?  Or, at these times, are other things in the way?  Here’s a thought, how much are we showing ourselves true love and kindness during these times?  Probably not as much or as often as we should.  There is a way for us to become a better version of ourselves…and too those who matter (should matter) to us.  You can do it…just reach out! 253-246-1613.  Love yourself enough to ask for help.  You deserve it! You can do it! People in your life love and care about you and are hurting for you whether you realize it or not.  God loves you.  God bless you, Mark.

HELLO ALL,

I wanted to check in and give some encouragement today.  The disease of Addiction, Mental Health, and Alcoholism are tough things to deal with.  However, the one way to start the healing process and recovery is to ask for help.  Just reach out…sometimes that is the hardest thing to do.  I find if we just ask, reach out, the help is closer than we think.  I know things are not easy dealing with this struggle, and asking for help may be the hardest thing you ever did, but it will be the best thing you will ever do!!  I wish you all a life of recovery and healing.  We are just a phone call away 253-246-1613.  God bless you, Mark.

HELLO ALL –

I am hopeful today simply because of how I choose to live my life today.  I have both God and sobriety in my life today.  However, it doesn’t mean life is always easy.  As a matter of fact, life is very challenging at times.  Due to my relationship with God and my sobriety I can navigate through those challenges better when needed.  It wasn’t alway like that for me…I struggled with a lot of things and my default coping skill was alcohol and drugs.  Which at the time, I did not realize that coping with my problems that way would just add more layers for me to deal with in addition to my existing problems.  Drugs and Alcohol has never improved my life or made the things I needed to deal with go away, it just postpone them for later date.  I could not take care of the problems and responsibilities consistently until I decided to get help and stay clean and sober.  If you are in need of assistance or know someone who is in need,  please feel free to contact our office @ 253-246-1613.  God Bless you and Keep you. Mark

THE BUBBLE

Mark Hampton Website

HELLO ALL,

I hope this finds you in a safe, warm and compassionate place.  If not please feel free to reach out to us.  I have noticed in addiction and mental health when we are in the throws of our addiction or consumed by our mental health crisis that it is at times very hard to see reality.  It is almost like we are in a BUBBLE or a small glass globe (similar to a goldfish) where everyone can see us and how we are living, however, we may/won’t see “US” in the same light, from the same perspective.  Why do you think that is? When we are in this BUBBLE, we lose sight of ourselves and wellbeing.  We might even think “we are doing good or we are ok”, however the reality is “WE ARE STRUGGLING” to keep swimming around in this bowl.  We are in need of some support, assistance and/or help.  It’s truly ok to ask for help.  It does take courage and strength, but the outcome of asking is way better then the path we are on.  Just ask, that is all it takes! You can do it!! I BELIEVE IN YOU!! YOU DESERVE IT!! GOD LOVES YOU!!

OLD SELF

Mark Hampton Website

HELLO ALL,

I was thinking the other day about getting past our OLD SELF, better yet our old behaviors.  Moving away from some of our old characteristics/habits may be easier than other defects we have which are more ingrained or buried deeper within us.  I have noticed there are times when we can be emotionally injured, financially challenged, or just plain ole stressed out! At some of those moments we are squeezed and the OLD SELF/OLD BEHAVIORS leak out unnoticed by us, however recognized by those closest to us.  What can we do? My suggestions are instead of being upset about it, look at as an opportunity for continued within ourselves. We are never going to be perfect, just work in progress.  Remember, the work we must do or want to do on ourselves is difficult if we are not staying clean and sober.  Getting clean and sober is the beginning of the process. If you find yourself needing assistance please contact our office @ 253-246-1613 or our website  AAHAASUPPORTIVEHOUSING.COM GOD BLESS YOU ALL, Mark.

HOLD ON TO HOPE

Mark Hampton Website

HELLO ALL,

I am hopeful that you are all staying safe and sober during these uncertain times.  If you are struggling with this disease feel assured that there is ALWAYS HOPE.  We can move towards that vision of HOPE if we move away from the victim mentality, towards healing and overcoming.  That vision of HOPE is obtainable.  Just love yourself enough to reach it.  God bless you all, Mark.

Hello Everyone,
I am aware that isolation is beneficial for the reduction of the Covid Virus, however, isolation for those of us in recovery is a risky proposition. We need interaction, support, and accountability to maintain the path of Change. Without it or even a change in our “Self Care” routines can be harmful.
I encourage ALL of you to keep connected via virtual meetings such as Zoom or other formats. Also, reach out to your healthy support networks; family, sober support friends, sponsors, mentors, and church families. All these and more can be useful to support us in these challenging times.
Lastly we here at AAHAA Supportive Housing are very excited… we are developing a podcast which will revolve around life & recovery. We are hoping to have it streaming some time next month. We will keep you posted.
Until then stay encouraged and stay hopeful! Brighter Days are ahead! Mark

Hello All,
I know these are trying and unsettled times, however if we learned anything in recovery we learned to trust the process. I do trust the process and I have faith in God. I know God will see us through. While our regular self-care outlets may be disrupted, there are many more virtual resources, along with sponsors’, mentors’, small group leaders, members…lots of folks we can reach out too for processing. Stay mindful that things are going to get brighter and better ahead.

For those of you who would like to assist the men and women we serve please feel free to “donate” on our site. We would like to establish a fund for those who may be struggling due to job loss or work reduction. When making the donation please note in the tab of what you would like the money used for.  Thank you all for your support and God bless you, Mark.
